Changing Kidnapping Dynamics

Kidnapping has been a long-standing risk to foreigners working in Yemen, peaking in the years 2011-2014 with 76 foreign victims kidnapped in the country. At the same time the motives, perpetrators and modus operandi evolved from primarily tribal kidnappings prior to 2011 to more political and criminal kidnappings. Based on years of research, Safer Yemen produced an in-depth study on the changing kidnapping dynamics in Yemen and the main drivers behind these developments.
